Gone are the days when laptops looked like ugly thick slabs that focused only on performance and shunned aesthetic appeal.

Today, laptops served up to the mass consumer market do not only boast of performance and features, they also look cool. Users get to feel like they own valuable pieces of property.

One such laptop is Toshiba’s Satellite M645, a 14-inch display multimedia laptop powered by the new Intel Core i5 processor. The Satellite is part of the “premier series” of Toshiba’s brand of notebooks.

The Satellite line-up of notebooks was developed by Toshiba for consumers who prefer pretty functional things.

So what makes the Satellite M645 stand out?

For one, this laptop comes in all-black glossy textured finish, which spills over onto the keyboard area. The tiny chain texture is more evident on the wide multitouch pad, providing the notebook with pretty subdued hues of black and dark grey.

But more than just a pretty face, the Satellite is meant to deliver top multimedia experience.

The laptop boasts of a pair of built-in Harmon Kardon speakers, a dedicated 1 GB NVIDIA GeForce graphics card (powerful enough to run games with Direct X requirements), and a slim slot loading DVD SuperMulti Drive (way better than pop-out trays of other laptops).

Be amazed and amused by the lights emanating from this laptop.

The tiled keyboard, with comfortable floating keys, is illuminated, which may help a user type in the dark.

There’s also the “multimedia bar” located on top of the keyboard, which features touch buttons that can immediately activate apps without the user having to navigate the screen with a mouse or touchpad.

As the Satellite M645 features power, Toshiba has also made it into a green PC by incorporating an eco-utility function. Once the laptop is not in use, it switches to eco mode. Ambient sensors automatically adjust the screen’s brightness to the surrounding light conditions.

The Satellite M645 features “Resolution + Technology,” a Toshiba technology that instantly scales up the quality of DVD movies for sharper images and more vibrant colors.

Also the user can enjoy full 1080p HD video and sound via the HDMI-CEC, which links the laptop to a Toshiba full HD TV.

It also features bundled software such as Smartface, which allows the user to log on to his account via Toshiba’s face recognition technology.

There’s also the HDD Shock protection with 3D motion sensor, fingerprint security suite, and the sleep-and-music feature, allowing users to enjoy music from a USB port connected MP3 player even when the notebook is turned off.

With a suggested retail price of P66, 990, the Satellite M645 promises elegance and performance in one powerful device.
